On December 7, 2008, our beloved Marky Cielo joined the Creator at the young age of 20. It was difficult to accept his demise as he had shown so much promise and color in his life and career. Nakapanghihinayang talaga because for most of us, Bok was a person who never failed to inspire the people around him – he was so generous in sharing and giving his love to his family and friends. But after all the tears have gone and emotions have settled down, acceptance has to follow – acceptance of the fact that he is already gone and we are left here, comforted only by the memories of the things he had shared with us and proud of his one unparalleled achievement – that is, opening the door for the indigenous young people to dare to Dream, Believe and Survive.
Indeed, for all the graces and good things the Lord had showered him, he had already given back so to speak with his dance moves, instinctive acting and happy disposition in life. As one writer puts it, “artists are borrowers; they borrow life’s essence and re-emphasize its importance…just as bees and other creatures just have to repaint the already intricate color plate of nature’s landscapes…artists exist because of this cycle…and the question is – in all the time that the artist have benefited from borrowing from reality, how much did he gave back?” We believe, in Marky’s case, he had given a lot in such a short time – and for that, he will be surely be remembered.
